5 Steps to Tasting Wine Like a Pro at Schnebly Winery

Schnebly Winery is the Southernmost Winery in the United States. Located in the heart of South Florida, the Redlands in Homestead, the Winery is the perfect place to sit back, relax, and get to try some of the most unique wines in the world.

They offer a special wine tasting experience: The Ultimate Wine Tasting, which consists of five wines for you to taste plus a gorgeous souvenir glass.

If you are planning to visit the Winery for their wine tastings, you will be able to learn all about the intricacies of drinking wine, including the five S’s: see, swirl, sniff, sip, savor. In this article, we will prepare you a little so you can get to the Winery and taste wine like a pro!

Tip #1: See

See the color of your wine. Remember that a red or blush wine will have more varying and intense colors than white wines do, but most importantly you want to see if there are any signs of oxidation. If this is the case, it might be best for you not to drink the rest because over time oxygen leads to flavor loss.

Tip #2: Swirl

Gently swirl the wine in your glass to release aromas and warm it up a bit. This will give you an idea of what flavor notes are present, like in the case of Schnebly wines, tropical fruit notes like mango, avocado, or starfruit.

Tip # 3: Sniff

The best way to taste wine is by smelling it first. Swirl the glass, take a deep breath in through your nose, and try to identify what you smell: sweet fruit like apricot or honeydew melon? Fruity with hints of citrus such as lemon zest and blood orange? Floral? Some wines even smell like wood or oak! With Schnebly wines there are so many smells to discover!

Tip #4: Sip

Sipping the wine can be an art form in itself. Take a sip, try to identify different flavors and aromas. When you sip, make sure you swirl the wine to the back of your mouth and keep it there for a bit. This releases so many after-tastes! The winemaker’s goal is that you leave your mouth salivating for more!

Tip #5: Savour

Don’t feel like you have to rush your tasting. Take time and enjoy the experience! At Schnebly’s Tasting, you can even ask staff questions about their winemaking process, grapes and fruits used in making a certain wine, and so much more!

Best of all, when you visit Schnebly Winery, you can also take a full tour of the Winery to see their winemaking process and how the magic happens beforehand!

Wine Tastings are just $25, daily, and they offer 5 of their super unique wines to taste, plus the super cool souvenir Schnebly glass! On weekends, you can go on a Wine Tasting and Tour, to get the full experience.
